GILES COUNTY, Tenn. - According to the Giles County Sheriff’s Department, a significant investigation into James and Kelli Hewitt that involved search and arrest warrants for Trafficking for forced labor, Involuntary labor servitude, 3 counts of animal cruelty, 1 count of aggravated animal cruelty.
The investigation of the Hewitts was a collaboration of fifteen agencies, and could not have been thoroughly investigated without each individual agency providing their experience and professional services. The Giles County Sheriff’s Department and Homeland Security Investigations will continue working with all agencies involved in the continued efforts with this case.
The Sheriff's Department says they are extremely pleased with the recent developments in the investigation and in addition to the above charges, eight individuals of varying ages were rescued and placed in a safer environment. The dedication and tireless efforts of our detectives, deputies, agents, and partnering agencies have led to this important breakthrough. We remain committed to the investigation and prosecution of this case; more charges and victims are anticipated.
