NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennesseans will have the chance to safely clean out their medicine cabinets this weekend during National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, happening Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event, organized by the Drug Enforcement Administration, provides an opportunity to safely and securely dispose of expired or unused medications, helping prevent substance misuse. More than 115 collection sites have been organized statewide, thanks to partnerships between local law enforcement and the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.
During the April Take Back Day earlier this year, Tennesseans turned in more than 17,000 pounds of medications. Since the program began, more than 433,000 pounds have been safely disposed of.
Those unable to attend an event can visit one of the 384 permanent drop boxes across the state, located in pharmacies, grocery stores, police precincts, and sheriff’s offices. Drop-offs are anonymous and available year-round.
