Tennessee's Precious Cargo Program

Have you heard about Tennessee's Precious Cargo Program ?

This free, voluntary program helps first responders better serve individuals who may have difficulty communicating during a traffic stop or other emergency. 

By enrolling in the program, a confidential notification is attached to the vehicle's registration. If a law enforcement officer runs the vehicle's license plate, they receive an alert that someone associated with the vehicle may require additional communication assistance.

The program is designed for individuals with conditions such as autism, dementia, intellectual or developmental disabilities, communication disorders, and certain other medical conditions that may affect communication.

It's important to know that the alert does not provide personal medical information. Instead, it simply lets first responders know they may need to slow down, communicate more clearly, and use additional patience during the interaction.

The Precious Cargo Program is completely free and is another way Tennessee is working to promote safer, more positive interactions between first responders and the communities we serve.
