Operation Southern Slow Down is now underway here in Tennessee and will see multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Metro Nashville Police Department, and several others begin the campaign to crack down on speeders.
The Operation Southern Slow Down campaign will last through Saturday, July 18th.
According to the Tennessee Highway Safety Office, the purpose of the annual traffic campaign is to increase speed enforcement on major highways and high-risk locations during a travel period when the rate of fatal crashes is highest throughout the Southeast.
Data shows crashes involving speeding area almost five times more likely to be deadly compared others. In 2024, nearly 200 people died from speed-related crashes in Tennessee.
